Meanwhile in the Philippines…
Waves as high as the coconut trees are currently battering Manila Bay as Typhoon Pedring (International name: Nesat) unleashes its fury with maximum sustained winds of 150 kph.
Although, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) assured that Typhoon Pedring will not be like Ondoy. Two years ago, Tropical Storm Ondoy had wreaked havoc over the capital city of Manila, claiming a hundred lives and displacing at least a hundred thousand people.

What really happened last night:
It was around 9PM when the rain started to fall. At first it was just a light rain until minutes later, lightning started to light the dark sky producing ear-splitting thunder. It rained so hard that you can’t actually hear the TV even if it was set on full volume. Moreso, wind, thunder and lightning intensified as minutes go by. I thought that this storm would only last for 30 minutes to 1 hour, but no, the storm didn’t lose its power until 1AM. Around midnight, I read some tweets of my friend, stating that flood water started to rise at a fast rate. Power interruptions were also reported in some areas affected by the flood.
I was a very worried since some of my friends and schoolmates live along the Matina-Bangkal area, a notoriously flood-prone area of the city.
The following pictures were taken this early morning by my schoolmate, Kuya Rexan. These were taken at the southern part of the city (Matina and Bangkal area) where the flood had caused millions of pesos worth of damage.

Remnants of last night’s flood.

The southbound lane of McArthur Highway turned into a ‘riverbed’.

The floodwater level last night was as high as that of the water line of DCWD (Blue Pipe).

Too much debris.

All southbound passengers walked almost a kilometer to ride jeeps going to downtown since jeeps and bigger vehicles can’t pass Balusong Bridge.
Saw these pictures at Twitter. Marikina River taken at around 5:30 PM. Water spilling over into the road near Riverbanks Mall, Marikina.

This was taken around 5:13 PM.
Guys, be safe! :(
Pinatubo
I’m currently watching this documentary show of Kabayan at ABS-CBN. It makes me think about Mt. Apo. You know, there has been no recorded eruption for several centuries already. More so, it’s a dormant volcano (evidences: sulfur emissions near Lake Agco, Hot Springs, geothermal plants). It’s the country’s highest peak and when it erupts, for sure it would be deadlier than Pinatubo. It would have a direct hit to the provinces of North Cotabato, Davao del Sur and even Davao City.
Oh no.
In memory of Air Philippines Flight 541 (2P-541) | April 19, 2000. Country’s worst air disaster.
Synopsis:
The Air Philippines Flight 541 was the worst Philippine air disaster which claimed the lives of 124 passengers and 7 crew members. The 32-year old Boeing 737-200 aircraft, previously owned by Southwest Airlines crashed on a coconut plantation near the mountainous region of Samal Island, Davao Oriental while preparing for its final approach to Davao International Airport’s RWY 23.
Through tedious data gathering, we now reveal what really went wrong during the last few minutes of the doomed Air Philippines Flight 541 flight.
—-
5:21 am.
Air Philippines Flight 541 was given clearance by Manila Tower to depart at RWY 13. The Manila-Davao flight will take an hour and forty minutes.
6:45 am.
As the plane approaches Davao, it lines up for RWY (runway) 05 through ILS (Instrument Landing System) approach. As the plane continues its final approach, air traffic controllers from the Davao Tower contact Flight 541 to discontinue ILS approach for RWY 05 due to runway traffic. Philippine Airlines PR 809 (Airbus A330-300) has just arrived from Manila and the aircraft hasn’t vacated the runway yet.
To prevent a deadly collision on the runway, air traffic controllers cleared Air Philippines Flight 541 for a VOR/DME approach in the opposite direction of the airport’s runway, which is RWY 23.
The plane is now over the Samal Island. The plane makes a 45 degree turn, vectoring for final approach on DIA’s RWY 23.
7:01 am.
The pilot reports that they are 7 miles off RWY 23. This is the last radio contact between Davao Tower and 2P-541.
7:03 am.
Air traffic controllers try to clear the plane to land. Unfortunately, the plane smashed on a coconut plantation in Mt. Kalangan, Sitio Camanlangan in Barangay San Isidro, Samal Island. The accident site was around 500 feet above sea level. At this point, the plane should have been a thousand feet higher.
The CVR/FDR transcript was never released in public. Investigators have speculated pilot error as the source of the plane crash. Also, low cloud cover were reported by the air traffic controllers during the incident.
Next week, on March 27, 2011, we will commemorate the 34th anniversary of the world’s worst air disaster, the Tenerife Airport disaster.
The Tenerife airport disaster in 1977 was a collision involving two Boeing 747 passenger aircraft on the runway of Los Rodeos Airport (now known as Tenerife North Airport) on the Spanish island of Tenerife, one of the Canary Islands. With 583 fatalities, the crash remains the deadliest accident in aviation history. All 248 aboard the fully-fuelled KLM Flight 4805 were killed. There were also 335 fatalities and 61 survivors from Pan Am Flight 1736, which was struck along its spine by the KLM’s landing gear, under-belly and four engines. Rescue crews were unaware for over 20 minutes that the Pan Am aircraft was also involved in the accident, because of the heavy fog and the separation of the crippled aircraft following the collision.
The collision took place on March 27, 1977, at 17:06:56 local time. The aircraft were operating as Pan Am Flight 1736 (the Clipper Victor) under the command of Captain Victor Grubbs, and KLM Flight 4805 (the Rijn) under the command of Captain Jacob Veldhuyzen van Zanten. Taking off in heavy fog on the airport’s only runway, the KLM flight crashed into the top of the Pan Am aircraft backtaxiing in the opposite direction. The Pan Am had followed the backtaxiing of the KLM aircraft, under the direction of air traffic control, and the KLM’s flight crew had been aware of Pan Am backtaxiing behind them on the same runway. Despite lack of visual confirmation due to the fog the KLM captain thought that Pan Am had cleared the runway and so attempted to take off without further clearance to do so. Several other key factors contributed to the accident.

A magnitude 8.9 earthquake hits Japan’s northeastern coast, unleashing a 13-foot (4-meter) tsunami that swept boats, cars, buildings and tons of debris miles inland.
This is a video footage recorded this afternoon, minutes after the strong quake. The city of Sendai (north of Tokyo) at Miyagi Prefecture was badly hit by a 13-foot tsunami.
Bad Dream
I just woke up a few minutes ago. I just had a dream. The details were unusually sharper and vivid compared to my previous dream. I thought that it’s already morning. Anyway, it was one of the worst dreams ever.
I was in school and the NMAT results were released.
Guess what?
I got 89.
And after that, we ran because zombies started to attack our school.
Anonymous asked: hi. nagtake ako ng nmat kanina and middle initial lang nilagay ko dun sa answer sheet ng part 1 (fortunately, middle name na yung nilagay ko sa part 2). i mean, hndi ko nilagay yung buong middle name ko ( yes, hndi ako nagbasa at nakinig sa examiner) . so, meron bang masamang effect yun ?? :)
Oh nose! If you didn’t follow the simple instruction, minus 10 ka na (overall percentile rank). You need to write a letter to CEM.
JOKE. I don’t know. In the first place you should be listening to the proctor kanina.
